Newnan High School history teachers Frank Henderson, Steve Quesinberry and the NHS History and Social Studies department hosted the 5th Annual Vet-Connect 5k race on Saturday November 10.

Over 250 people registered and participated in the annual race, which departed from Newnan High.  Proceeds from the race made possible the largest donation yet that Newnan High’s history department has made to local veterans organizations.

On November 12, students and teachers from Newnan High presented a check for $23,000 to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2667, and American Legion Post 57 in Newnan.

With that donation, the NHS History Department has donated over $50,000 to local veterans organizations in the past 5 years of the race. The school’s Social Studies Department hosts the school’s History Club – recognized for several years as the largest of its kind in the nation – and a number of connections to military veterans, including annual “Vet Connect” days which introduce students to veterans and their experiences in the service, the annual 5k race and other projects.
