The Coweta County Board of Education honored two Northgate students for their performance at this year’s Georgia Science Olympiad.

Northgate graduate Arthi Shankar and rising senior Ashley Dombrowski took first place in the Anatomy category of this year’s science Olympiad, held March 31 at Emory University. Shankar and Dombrowsky (then a senior and junior) beat out 40 competing teams in the subject competition to come in first.

Shankar and Dombrowski were accompanied by Northgate teacher Orla Thomas, their Science Olympiad Coach, and Coweta Schools Science Specialist Donald White at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.

Northgate teacher Mary Grace McCord also serves as the science Olympiad event coach for team members.

White noted that this was the second year in a row that the pair took top spot in the Anatomy category.

“That is a very rare accomplishment,” said White.
