Two high school senior band students from Fayette County won scholarships at the All-State Festival, which brings together the best student musicians throughout the state for public performances led by top directors and conductors.

Makenzie Hall, an oboe player at Whitewater High, received a $500 scholarship sponsored by SoundAround Audio Recordings, and Errol Rhoden, III, a tuba player at Fayette County High, won a $500 scholarship sponsored by the National Band Association. They were among just six students from the state who were awarded scholarships at the festival.

Students were selected from a competitive application process that included writing an essay about why he or she should receive the scholarship. In order to qualify to apply, band students had to have been selected for the All-State Band or All-State Full Orchestra for at least three years.

Mackenzie was selected for All-State for five years, and she played in the 11-12th grade All-State Symphonic Band this year. Errol was selected for All-State for six years, and he played in the 11-12th grade All-State Full Orchestra this year.
