The future workforce demands in Fayette County, and the skills students will need to meet them, was the focus of the Workforce and Education Forum hosted by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.

A total of 151 parents, students, business and community leaders, and elected officials attended this year’s annual forum that showcased the accomplishments of the Fayette County Public School System; specifically, highlighting trends that will determine the future success and competitiveness of Fayette County in relation to workforce development.

Fayette County Public School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Barrow presented current highlights for the school system, including programs and initiatives that are in place to ensure that students are both college and career ready by the time they graduate high school. One of those initiatives is the work-based learning program.

A panel of student interns and employers discussed their experiences in the work-based learning program, as well as the value of internships for both the student and employer. Several businesses, including Piedmont Fayette Hospital; Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport; NAECO, LLC; and Interfor, were present to talk about their partnerships with Fayette County Public Schools, and to give attendees an opportunity to witness the successful collaborations between businesses and the school system.

Paige Muh, communications and community development director, says, “These stories from different businesses and colleges demonstrate the alignment of business and education in Fayette County that prepares our students for the ultimate life goal, a meaningful job and career.”

Chris Clark, CEO of the Georgia Chamber, was also a featured speaker at the forum, sharing information on statewide trends in workforce development and statewide competitiveness, specifically discussing trends for Fayette County.
